As part of this year’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the National Hispanic Cultural Center and the Balloon Park Drive-In will screen a series of four films highlighting Hispanic/Latinx history, culture, and contributions.
When aspiring 12-year-old musician Miguel is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead, an unexpected friend helps him uncover the mysteries behind his family’s stories and traditions. Disney/Pixar’s award-winning tale of family, fun, and adventure is inspired by the Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos, and has been praised for its animation, voice acting, music, emotional story, and respect for Mexican culture. The voice cast stars Anthony Gonzalez, Gael García Bernal, Benjamin Bratt, Alanna Ubach, Renée Victor, Ana Ofelia Murguía, and Edward James Olmos. Coco was chosen by the National Board of Review as the Best Animated Film of 2017, and won two Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, as well as a Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Film and several other prestigious awards. It is the first film with a nine-figure budget to feature an all-Latino principal cast. 2017; directed by Lee Unkrich & Adrian Molina; 105 minutes; rated PG.
The Balloon Fiesta Drive-in is a new drive-in theatre allowing patrons to socialize safely outside their homes during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic while enjoying popular films.
