ABQ Latin Dance Festival 2017: Timbalive
August 26, 2017
7 pm to 12 am
The annual Albuquerque Latin Dance Festival, a three-day celebration of rhythm and movement, features performances by world-class dancers as well as non-competitive dance showcases, parties, and workshops. Additional attractions include dance films, lectures, and live musical performances. Friday night’s event, following Latin Dance Night in Old Town, is a fun-filled evening of salsa dancing at the NHCC. The festival’s main concert on Saturday night features Leo García and Timbalive, for a magical night of music and dance on the Center’s Plaza Mayor. Created in Miami in 2008, Timbalive combines the best of Cuban music with a mix of rhythms from around the world. Members are highly trained musicians from Cuban musical schools, and the internationally acclaimed ensemble has realized its musical dream of becoming the largest and most successful timba (a genre based on popular Cuban music blended with salsa and American funk/R&B, and influenced strongly by Afro-Cuban folkloric music) group in the U.S. and the world. The Sunday night wrap-up is a final evening of music, performances, and dancing with DJ Pancho.
