The Mari-Luci Jaramillo Collection Opening Reception & Exhibition

6 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center’s Research Library and Archives is pleased to announce that the Mari-Luci Jaramillo Collection consisting of papers, photographs, scrapbooks, and ephemera documenting the illustrious career of the Honorable Mari-Luci Jaramillo, former Ambassador to Honduras; Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Latin America; civil rights activist; and educator, will soon be available for research and study.  Join us for the opening reception and exhibition of items from the collection, on November 18th, 2016 at 6pm in the History and Literary Arts Building. (more…)

La Canoa: Making Frederico Vigil’s Miracle Wall

2 pm Our La Canoa Legacy series features talks by Hispanic-Latino faculty and community researchers with long-standing and accomplished records of research and teaching about New Mexico and the region. The final talk of this season features Aracely Chapa, Director of the Center for Regional Studies, at UNM, talking about the process that resulted in Frederico Vigil’s fresco “Mundos de Mestizaje” that graces the wall of the Torreon on the NHCC Campus. Spanish Cooking Classes: Tapas!

6 pm The purpose of Instituto Cervantes’ Spanish Cooking Classes is to learn to cook typical dishes from Spain, always using fresh local ingredients from New Mexico. All attendees will have the opportunity to prepare these dishes from scratch. During the Tapas! class, participants can learn Spanish as well. Our chef is from Spain, and the class is taught in Spanish and translated into English. Tapas, the theme for this month’s class, are one of the best-known appetizers in Spain, combining a variety of ingredients and flavors. (more…)

Families can come to the Center for hands-on art activities, bilingual sing-alongs, outdoor activities in the bosque, and story times in the Center’s library.
