High School Art Exhibit: Opening Reception

2 pm – 4 pm This exhibit, which runs through May 14, will feature artwork created by students from Albuquerque High School and Volcano Vista High School in response to the beloved novel by Rudolfo Anaya, Bless Me, Ultima (1972). The students’ work, also inspired by the novel, compliments the artwork featured in the NHCC Art Museum La Ultima Exhibición, which runs through November 11, 2018. Free public event

The National Hispanic Cultural Center’s History and Literary Arts Program presents a new exhibit, “El voto femenino: Sufragistas Latinas luchando por el derecho al voto/The Women’s Vote: Latina Suffragists who Fought for the Right to Vote” which opens on Friday, January 24, 2020, and runs through June 30, 2020. Call for Photographer

The NHCC Art Museum has received grant funding to support the professional photography and digital image capture of a collection of approximately 300 hand-painted paños (paintings and drawings on handkerchief cloth), a small selection of 3-D objects, letters and correspondence, and archival materials.  Priority will be given to art objects before related archival materials.  In total, the collection consists of approximately 1000 individual objects. Tempo y Tiempo: 4 Photographers in New Mexico Opening Reception

5 -7 pm Free, in-person, public reception at the NHCC Art Museum Per the public health order, masks are required indoors The exhibition Tempo y Tiempo features photographs by four artists working in New Mexico: Frank Blazquez, Bobby Gutierrez, Pico del Hierro-Villa, and Ximena Montez. Collectively, the artists tell stories about what it is to live in New Mexico, illustrating a range of identities, experiences, and moments.

In the final days of the exhibition, experience 21 musical compositions on vinyl records playing once more in the gallery as they erode and change over time. The Art Museum at the National Hispanic Cultural Center (NHCC) is honored to host the exhibition Paño Connections organized by artist and guest curator Eric "Christo" Martinez.  On display in the Community Gallery, which is dedicated to showcasing art by New Mexican artists, this exhibit explores artworks inspired by paños (drawings on handkerchiefs) and other artworks created by incarcerated artists.
