December 8, 2016

7 pm

The Wisdom Archive presents the world premieres of Monica Sosaya, Maestra de Tradición and Una Tarde Íntima de Música con Antonia Apodaca y Cipriano Vigil. The screening will also include Monica Sosaya: The Colcha Lesson and an excerpt from a work-in-progress, Cipriano Vigil: Cantautor de la Gente. A new Santa Fe based 501(c)(3) non-profit, The Wisdom Archive is dedicated to the preservation and celebration of traditional art, culture, and knowledge through a YouTube-based video archive.
Free ticketed event; tickets available one hour before show

At 85, Monica Sosaya is the “Grand Dame” of the annual Santa Fe Traditional Spanish Market. As celebrated in Monica Sosaya, Maestra de Tradición, she is a master santera, colchera, and painter who has shared her work widely while mentoring hundreds with amazing energy, wit, and wisdom. In the short, sometimes humorous film The Colcha Lesson, she teaches the basic colcha stitch and shows some of her work and early colcha patterns to a beginning student.

93-year-old Antonia Apodaca and 76-year-old Cipriano Vigil are the best known and best loved living practitioners of Northern New Mexico music.  Una Tarde Intima de Musica con Antonia Apodaca y Cipriano Vigil documents the first time the two of them, friends for over 40 years, just jam together. They teach each other new songs, share old standards, and have a really good time doing it! An excerpt from Cipriano Vigil: Cantautor de la Gente, a musical documentary in progress following the artist over the course of two years, shows Cipriano jamming with two members of the Nuevomexicano band Lone Piñon at his home in El Rito, New Mexico.

A Q&A session with Monica Sosaya, Antonia Apodaca, Cipriano Vigil, and filmmaker Scott Andrews, founder of The Wisdom Archive, will follow the screening.
