Book Reading & Signing, The Spirit of Flamenco: From Spain to New Mexico

2 pm Author and curator Nicolasa Chavez will host a book reading and signing of her beautiful, opulently illustrated book The Spirit of Flamenco: From Spain to New Mexico. REZILIENCE 2016—Indigenous Arts Experience

9 am—Gates Open 5 pm—Main Concert REZILIENCE—Indigenous Arts Experience is an immersive, all-ages experience that focuses on modern Indigenous art processes. Artists include both nationally and locally recognized entertainers, muralists, multimedia artists, and poets. More than sixty Indigenous artists and art-related professionals representing the U.S., Canada, and Latin America will participate during the full-day event, sharing their talents, skills, and knowledge in eight creative arenas. Jugamos Juntos: ¡Vamos al Museo!, Spanish Mosaics

10:30 am — 12 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer children’s programming on Saturday mornings during June, July, and half of August, from 10:30 am to noon. Families can come to the Center for hands-on art activities, bilingual sing-alongs, outdoor activities in the bosque, and story times in the Center’s library. For Vamos al Museo on June 4th, in honor of the National Institute of Flamenco’s Festival Flamenco Internacional, we’ll work with tile mosaics in the Spanish tradition. Siembra, Latino Theatre Season: Yo Soy Joaquín!

7:30 pm—Thursday-Saturday 2 pm—Sunday An epic poem by Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales famously associated with the Chicano movement of the 1960s, Yo Soy Joaquín! is presented by Patricio Tlacaelel Trujillo y Fuentes in the form of a play. Joaquín speaks of the struggles the Chicano people have faced in trying to achieve economic justice and equal rights in the U.S., as well as in establishing their own identity. $18 w/ $3 discount for students, seniors, & NHCC members; $10 Thursday shows only
