Arte Poquito

10:00 am Arte Poquito is a free, monthly, 45-minute program for babies and toddlers ages 0 months to 4 years and their caregivers that cultivates creativity and self-expression through the exploration of Hispanic/Latine arts and culture. Participants explore the NHCC Museum, Performing Arts Center, and engage in artmaking, music, movement, dance, drama, and bilingual story time. NHCC instructors model age-appropriate arts techniques that celebrate self-expression, build vocabulary, and strengthen both fine-motor and gross-motor skills in a fun environment. New Mexico 45th Annual Conference on Aging

Please join us for the New Mexico 45th Annual Conference on Aging. This conference is focused on celebrating the lives of our seniors and care givers as well as providing resources to our aging community. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in workshops, connect with peers, and hear from distinguished speakers such as Barbara “Mother” Hubbard and Valerie Tsosie. Afro Mundo: Liz Olivia Fernandez

2:00 pm, Social Justice Film Screening, Discussion to immediately follow. We will show 30 minutes total of Uphill on the Hill and Hardliner on the Hudson. They are unreleased. Both docs are 30-40 minutes each but given an hour 20 minutes is generally too long for audiences; we’ll show abridged and polished 15-minute segments of each. In Uphill on the Hill, award -winning Cuban journalist Liz Olivia Fernandez travels to Washington D.C., where she exposes the political interests driving the U.S. government’s Cold War-era policy toward Cuba. (more…)

Gale Memorial Lecture Series 2023-2024: Justin Favela

6:00 pm In collaboration with the University of New Mexico College of Fine Arts, the Center will host Nevada-based artist Justin Favela as he presents his lecture “Give It a Rest: A Latinx Artist in Repose.” The lecture is based on Favela’s recently completed durational performance Reposo: A Hispanic Artist Rests For The Entirety Of Hispanic Heritage Month. This event is part of the 2023-24 Gale Memorial Lecture Series: “Disobedient Gestures: Afro-Latinx and Queer Latinx Artist against the Grain.” Free Community Event. Please register below.
