Día de los Muertos Exhibition – Call for Entries

10 am to 5 pm Each year the Education Department at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, works with schools and community organizations, to host an Ofrenda (altar) Exhibit, in celebration of Día de los Muertos. Your altar Installation dates are October 12-14, 2016 The exhibit runs October 18-November 11, 2016 Please provide your own tables, boxes or structure for you Altar. K-12 Educator’s Workshop: Día de los Muertos: Cultural Literacy in Practice

5 pm to 8 pm Join the UNM Latin American & Iberian Institute and the National Hispanic Cultural Center for a free professional development workshop for K-12 educators focused on Día de los Muertos. We’ll discuss how to bring cultural literacy and culturally relevant resources to students through activities that explore the history and practices associated with Día de los Muertos. ¡HAH! Happy Arte Hour: Día de los Muertos: Ofrendas & Sugar Skulls

5:30 pm to 7:30 pm On the first Thursday of the month, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting, which includes snacks, refreshments, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz.  This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out, a unique date night option, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. ¡Vamos al Museo!: Día de los Muertos: Sugar Skulls & Mini Ofrendas

10:30 am to 12:30 pm The National Hispanic Cultural Center is pleased to offer children’s programming on the first Saturday morning of every month. This is a fun and engaging docent and artist-led family program.  Families (limited to 25 participants) get a 30-minute museum tour focused on an art form, source inspiration, artist or type of material.  Following the tour, the whole family can create their own artwork in the Pete V. Domenici Education Building Messy Classroom. A great morning of art-making for children of all ages and (more…)
