Jenny and the Mexicats St. Patrick’s Day Dance Party

NHCC and Pop Fizz invite you to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a night of dancing and fun with the world-renowned Jenny and The Mexicats. Known for their infectious style of genre-bending music that borrows from pop, flamenco, reggae, mariachi, jazz, folk and cumbia this band will knock your socks off and keep you moving all night.  Pop Fizz will have food, paletas, beer and alcohol for sale.  This concert is a part of the Revolutions Festival and supported by AMP Concerts.pm

¡Baile! Rueda de Casino (Cuban Salsa) Dance Class

March 20

6 pm to 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate – This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary.

7 pm to 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced – In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.

Dance classes taught by Sarita Streng, Nick Babic, Adam “El Caballo” Metcalf, Larry Heard, and Rueda 505 Friends.

Now celebrating its 5th anniversary, How Love Wins is a sequel to The Performers Ballet and Jazz Company’s award-winning holiday production of Christmas Joy. Inspired by the Gospel and expressed through dance, the story of How Love Wins is filled with meaningful and engaging choreography. Progressing from the birth of Jesus through His life, death and resurrection, this newest addition to The Performers’ repertoire carries on the professionalism and extraordinary level of performance our audiences have come to expect. How Love Wins came alive as a new opportunity for The Performers to share the redeeming love of our Savior with our audiences.

YJASTROS: THE AMERICAN FLAMENCO REPERTORY COMPANY proudly brings the creative visions of world-renowned flamenco artists to the American public, while cultivating the living art of Flamenco in the United States. Celebrating their 32nd season, Yjastros come together after a year of profound individual growth. Within the past year, company members have honed their artistic expression both through the spontaneous, improvisational world of the Tablao and their own individual artistic projects. The simultaneously traditional and innovative nature of this season’s choreographies perfectly embodies the company’s triumphant return to the stage.

Yjastros 32 is a flamenco epic full of world premiere choreographic masterpieces. Mystical and innovative, Yjastros 32 explores innovation in the art form of flamenco. This breathtaking season features new dances and music by Spanish flamenco master artists Jesús Carmona, Pedro Córdoba, Daniel Doña, and Adrián Santana, who intertwine the roots of flamenco dance with modern interpretations to create a visually exquisite tapestry of stunning and powerful choreography. The concert will take place Friday, March 30th and Saturday, March 31st at 8pm.

Join us in honoring the life and legacy of César Chávez at the 25th annual César Chávez Day Fiesta, with a march—La Marcha de Justicia—beginning at 10:30 am at the National Hispanic Cultural Center and ending at noon on the Center’s Plaza Mayor. Following the march, the family fiesta at the Center includes poetry, dancing, community exhibits, children’s activities and games, food, and live music.

Bellini’s Norma is a fully-staged opera with orchestra, sung in Italian with English supertitles and presented in two acts with one intermission. This will be the New Mexico premiere of Bellini’s bel canto masterpiece.

Norma tells the story of the Druid priestess who sacrifices it all for love and loyalty, despite ultimate betrayal. Watch one of the most challenging, and breathtakingly beautiful, roles in the soprano repertoire. From Casta Diva to Mira to Norma, there’s not a second of music in the opera that won’t leave you feeling awestruck and inspired. Maestro Anthony Barrese conducts.

This 25th anniversary concert is Son Como Son’s tribute to the rich lineage of Cuban music. It is a tribute to the dance—the dance between the Yoruban spiritual world and the Spanish colonialists, the dance between the past and the future, the dance where the ocean meets the desert. Most of all, it is a tribute to the dancers of Albuquerque—to each and every one who has buoyed this ship for the past 25 years and helped to put Albuquerque on the salsa map.
