Alicia Gaspar de Alba: Writing Workshop

As part of the NHCC’s El Arte de la Palabra series, award-winning author Alicia Gaspar de Alba will host a writing workshop, titled The Mariposa Hour: Oral Storytelling. This oral storytelling workshop is based on techniques from The Moth, which Gaspar de Alba teaches in her bilingual creative writing class, The Mariposa Hour.

9:30 am on the 4th Tuesday of each month
Our Colcha community Workshop is open to all levels of experience in an informal setting. This workshop is instructed by Annette Gutierrez-Turk. Annette has taught this art form to groups internationally and at the NHCC for many years. She is also an award-winning artist, most recently recognized in 2019 at Santa Fe Spanish Market. Annette will demonstrate as well as answer questions. We hope you will join us every month on the fourth Tuesday, on zoom or in person. Everyone will have a chance to share what they are working on.

Entre Palabras Online Book Club: Woman of Light

NHCC’s Entre Palabras Online Book Club explores diverse themes and topics within the Hispanic/Latine diaspora including identity, place, borders, nationality, race, gender, and language. The book club highlights pieces centered on New Mexico and the Southwest as well as Hispanic/Latine/Latin American works from both the United States and a variety of countries throughout the Hispanic world.
El club de libros en línea “Entre Palabras” del NHCC explora diversos temas del diaspora hispane/latine, como identidad, lugar, fronteras, nacionalidad, raza, género, e idioma. El club de libros destaca obras centradas en Nuevo México y el Suroeste y también obras hispanes, latines, y latine americanes de los Estados Unidos y de una variedad de países del mundo hispano.

Happy Arte Hour
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out, a unique date night option, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. Drinks and snacks will be available to purchase. Explore the world of soft sculpture with artist April Garcia, whose work is on display in Fronteras del Futuro: Art in New Mexico and Beyond. A variety of fabrics and materials will be available for you to create your very own futurism-inspired soft sculpture.

New Mexico Folk Dance for Seniors
1:30 to 3:30 pm
New Mexico Folk Dance will feature 4 weeks of traditional New Mexico music with dance classes such as La Marche. Classes run for four consecutive Thursdays from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. New Mexico Folk Dance is part of the NHCC’s Siempre Creativo program, which provides a free multidisciplinary arts program for seniors.
