Tertulia Histórica Albuquerque: The Pen and The Sword: Literary Works of Colonial New Mexico

Join State Historian Rob Martínez as he explores New Mexico’s early literary tradition with influences from epic poems of the ancient Mediterranean, colonial Mexico, and the mystic poetic traditions of San Juan de la Cruz and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. The talk will take you on a journey showing how these different styles are manifested in the works of authors like Villagrá, Benavides, Sigüenza y Góngora, and Quintana.
