February 16, 19, 21, & 23, 2025
2:00 pm Sundays, 7:30 pm Wednesday & Friday
Opera Southwest presents Adam Del Monte’s Llantos 1492.
“Oh, times of light, how they have fallen through the narrow passage of the hourglass into an ashtray of darkness.”
The Reconquista is drawing to a close and the Inquisition’s dark cloud is gathering on the Spanish horizon. A lawyer defends a village of gitanos against false accusations. Against a musical backdrop that blends the musical traditions of flamenco and opera, the story unfolds: a rigged trial, mystical experiences, a love story, exile and execution. This is an opera about resilience and the ultimate triumph of identity, both religious and ethnic, in a time of intolerance.
Running time: 2 hours and 15 minutes, including one intermission
$29, $49, $69, $89 & $109 with discounts for groups of 8 or more, anyone 30 years old and younger and Opera for All with a WIC or EBT card. Opera for All tickets are limited to 2 per ID and must be purchased at the NHCC box office by calling 505-724-4771 or in person.
