Founded in 1988, DanzAbierta (translated as “open dance”) is a pioneer in Cuba’s avant-garde dance movement. Now under the leadership of artistic director and choreographer Susana Pous Anadón and dramatic art advisor and technical director Guido Gali, the award-winning ensemble has become one of Havana’s most prominent dance companies. DanzAbierta tours regularly throughout the world, performing in major international festivals and venues including Caliendanza (Colombia), Avignon and Montpellier (France), Schrittmacher (Germany), SIDance (South Korea), DanseEncore (Canada), and the Holland Dance Festival, as well as Jacob’s Pillow, New York’s Joyce Theater, and Chicago’s Atheneum Theatre in the U.S.
