A Way Home is a new opera for middle and high school students, as well as families, exploring the roots of cultural identity. It deals with a young girl's coming to grips with her Mexican heritage, her family's inability to communicate upon the death of her mother, and a magical connection with the Monarch butterflies who migrate each year to their winter home in the Oyamel firs in Michoacán.
This professionally produced opera with orchestra, sung in
English and Spanish, premiered last season as the winner of the Brabson
Competition for new operas, and was acclaimed as "stunning and powerful with
beautiful music." It runs 45 minutes with a question and answer period
afterwards.
