¡Baile! Rueda de Casino (Cuban Salsa) Dance Class

April 30

6 pm to 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate – This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary.

7 pm to 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced – In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.

Dance classes taught by Sarita Streng, Nick Babic, Adam “El Caballo” Metcalf, Larry Heard, and Rueda 505 Friends.

On the first Thursday of the month, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting, which includes snacks, refreshments, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out, a unique date night option, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts.

First Friday: Volunteer Education and Conversation

9:00 am – 11 am

On the first Friday of each month, NHCC docents and core volunteers meet for coffee and conversation along with monthly presentations on topics that build the knowledge and skills of the docent core to give tours, educate the NHCC visitors and share the NHCC mission and programs.

Traditions! Folklórico Dance Spectacular

Traditions! Folklórico Dance Spectacular is a folkloric dance showcase featuring three New Mexico ensembles, including Santa Fe’s Ballet Folklórico de Santa Fe, Albuquerque’s Grupo Folklórico Desoluna, and Northern New Mexico’s Baile Ilusión, each with a large local following, with live musical accompaniment from Banda Neluayotl, direct from Chihuahua, Chih., Mexcio. The participating groups will focus on presenting traditional pieces that represent the beautiful, authentic dances and music of Mexico.
Saturday afternoon – $12 with a $2 discount for Children 12 years old and younger and NHCC members
Saturday evening – $17 with a $2 discount for Children 12 years old and younger and NHCC members

A Vision of History through Fresco…

Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America.

The digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a sharing and learning experience for students and families anywhere. We invite you to explore the imagery, history and complexities of the Mundos de Mestizaje mural.

A two-time Grammy Award winner founded in 1961 by Natividad “Nati” Cano, Mariachi Los Camperos has played a fundamental role in the development of mariachi music in the United States by training and mentoring new generations of musicians. Cano was a visionary leader who took mariachi performance out of customary locations such as cantinas and into concert halls. Mariachi Los Camperos continues to preserve the richness of mariachi music and culture, showcasing and passing on the traditions and opening doors to influence the next generation of mariachi musicians throughout the world.

Award-winning dance company marks world-class premiere! The Performers Ballet & Jazz Company, an Albuquerque-based dance company operating since 1981, announces its premiere Spring Gala, running for one weekend only at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

Featuring 65 classically trained dancers in new and re-staged classical and contemporary works, this avant-garde production by the highly acclaimed company will redefine concert dance in our city. The performance will also showcase a renowned collection of classical ballet repertoire. Choreographers include Alex Ketley, Artistic Director of The Foundry, San Francisco, CA, as well as local artists Karen Alwin, Andrea Basile, Wendy Miner, and Kelsey Paschich.
