A Vision of History through Fresco…

Mundos de Mestizaje by Frederico Vigil is a mural housed in the Torreón on the campus of the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This monumental fresco depicts thousands of years of Hispanic history highlighting diverse cultural connections between people and places from the Iberian Peninsula to the Americas. The 4,000 square foot painting is one of the largest frescos in North America.

The digitized imagery of the painting ensures that this culturally significant work can be a sharing and learning experience for students and families anywhere. We invite you to explore the imagery, history and complexities of the Mundos de Mestizaje mural.

George, the protagonist of Patricia Crespín’s play, has big dreams of being a singer. He even writes his own songs. But when his father doesn’t return from a working trip to Mexico, George is forced to put his dreams on hold and help his mother take care of the ranch and raise his younger siblings. When his mother dies from malnutrition, George makes a pact with himself to find his father, whom he is convinced abandoned them, and kill him. He arrives in Mexico, and with the help of a cranky bartender and a determined young Mexican woman, tracks down his father and quickly discovers that some things really are better left alone.
