6 pm to 7 pm Beginning and Intermediate – This class is geared for teenagers and adults. Come learn footwork, partner skills and choreography. No experience necessary.

7 pm to 8 pm Intermediate and Advanced – In order to participate in this class, dancers must know how to keep time, closed position calls, dame, enchufla, and outside turn.

Dance classes taught by Sarita Streng, Nick Babic, Adam “El Caballo” Metcalf, Larry Heard, and Rueda 505 Friends.

Short Mystery Fiction: Featuring Nancy Martira, Maurice Moya, David Sanchez and Deyonne Sandoval.

Join us for a reading by writers completing the NHCC’s eight-week “Short Mystery Fiction” writing workshop. Each writer will share an excerpt from a mystery fiction piece in-progress. All are welcome to celebrate our growing community of NHCC writers.

On the first Thursday of the month, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting, which includes snacks, refreshments, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out, a unique date night option, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts.

This month, join an artist from the exhibition Because It’s Time: Unraveling Race and Place in NM who will lead the workshop.

A visit to the museum is included in this workshop led by an artist from the NHCC Art Museum exhibit Because It’s Time: Unraveling Race and Place in NM. We will meet in the Creative Classroom in the Pete V. Domenici Building.

Escribir Nuevo Mexico—Taos County: Featuring NM Authors David Gurule, Rose Spader, and Joanna Vidaurre-Trujillo

The NHCC is proud to present a new reading series featuring books about New Mexico authored by New Mexican writers. Each reading will feature 2-3 writers whose books focus on a particular place in the Land of Enchantment. On Oct. 6 we feature Tortillas and Butter, A Young Man’s Quest for a Meaningful Life by David J. Gurule, Overturned Bucket, by Rose Spader, based on the true story of one woman’s resilience during the New Mexico Territorial fight for land, and Potatoes and Beans/Papas y Frijoles, by Joanna Vidaurre-Trujillo, a collection of short stories and poems written in the traditional Spanish dialect of northern New Mexico, with English translations.

Bless Me, Ultima: The Reading

On October 14th we will present a beginning-to-end, marathon reading of Rudolfo Anaya’s Bless Me, Ultima in the NHCC art museum, where an exhibit about the novel continues through November 11th. Dignitaries, luminaries, public school students, writers, readers, NHCC staff and volunteers, and community members will read from the novel, each for 15 minutes, during this day-long event. Enjoy refreshments, tour the exhibit, and listen to this great American novel.
