¡HAH! Happy Arte Hour

December 7, 2017

This event is full and registration is now closed. Please check back for the next Happy Arte Hour, February 1, 2018.

5:30 pm

On the first Thursday of the month, NHCC invites adults for artistic fun in a relaxed social setting, which includes snacks, refreshments, and beer & wine for sale from Pop Fizz. This is a great opportunity for friends to hang out, a unique date night option, or a place to come solo and connect with fellow art enthusiasts.

This month’s art project will be lead by Martha Vároz Ewing who uses wheat, oats & barley straw in her work, which she gathers from her brother’s wheat fields in Southern Colorado.  The straw is known as Poor Man’s Gold and the tin is “Poor Man’s Silver.  She combines the two mediums as she feels they complement each other.  Martha notes that her art takes on a form of prayer which is offered to the Trinity and is symbolic in her designs as noted in patterns of three.  She was mentored by the late Paula Rodriguez who was responsible, along with her husband Eliseo,  for the revival of this dying art form in the 1930’s during the WPA project.

Martha is a native of Santa Fé and has been a participant in the traditional Spanish Market since 2004. She is an award winning artist and was awarded the top five awards at the traditional Spanish Market in Santa Fe in 2005.
